Bali Cheap Hotels

Bali Indonesia Budget Accommodations & Diving

Staying in Bali and I am noticing that there is a real surge in prices here and I wonder if the prices will get as high as they are in Thailand, where for a lot of budget accommodations many travelers are priced out of what they were use to getting pretty regularly for cheap lodging.

In Sanur Beach the room rates went for $12 a night to nearly $20 and the rooms were a lot older and not nearly as nice as when they were brand new.  Now inflation is true everywhere but it has gone way beyond what the locals are seeing in their wages so this is more of profiteering than natural price increases.  this happens anywhere there is a surge in tourist and I suspect that it will be a several years before the prices affect the numbers of tourists.

I for one and not spending as much time in Thailand as I use to because I don't believe that I am getting value for my money.  In Laos and Cambodia you can still get good deals all though in Cambodia the food costs have risen allot mostly because the fuel costs are very high compared to other countries in the region and you can bet when the oil starts pumping in Cambodia the government will not be subsidising fuel like you would see in Malaysia Thailand and Indonesia.

Bali Budget accommodations & guesthouses

Bali Budget accommodations Sanur Beach
Was a fly on the wall last night listing to a conversation on hotels guesthouses and serviced apartments which in Bali there are not allot of currently, but I think you will see more of them as Bali continues to be one of the fastest growing resort destination in the world and certainly in Asia.

The main point of the discussion was the benefits of a serviced apartment as opposed to a regular budget hotel room and the biggest thing mentioned was the lack of a pool which for most budget accommodations in Bali in Kuta Seminyak and Sanur beach you would have. Right now with the daily temperature raising before the coming Monsoon it really is a big deal to have a pool even if it a very small one, especially if one is further away from the ocean. Many people like swimming in the ocean but if they are looking to get a quick cool off it is a pain in the ass to go to the ocean, and then track sand back to your house, and take a shower to wash off the salt and sand, and then have the sand on your floor until the room gets serviced again.

So for my list of top ten hotel amenities a pool is way up there and I am thinking that I should look at doing another one for top ten amenities for a serviced apartment in resort area.

One of the things that seems to be important to the ladies is a hair dryer which in the 4 and 5 star accommodations is a given and in some of the 3 star and boutique hotels you would see them more likely if there is business being down from the location as well. For a serviced apartment though I think that would be something that you would bring with you or purchase for a serviced condo or condotel.

For a serviced unit I don't think that if you are managing it that you would want to spend allot of time inventorying everything in the unit when the guests check out would just be to time consuming so they would want t keep the little things that could walk off to a minimum.

the biggest advantage of a serviced accommodation would be the ability to cook and the one unit that I stayed in Sanur beach while it did have a refrigerator it did not have any way to cook I think that if you are going to put in a refrigerator that you should also at a min put in a microwave.  the cost at what $75 USD for a unit that will last for 5 years is a very small investment and would make the room that much more livable which would be part of my advertising.  If it was a bed and breakfast then you might want to avoid that but for a serviced apartment or condotel that would need to be a major consideration on the amenities list.
