Phnom Penh Budget accommodations I stayed at a place a couple of years ago and I asked them if they were interested in just renting an apartment to me for just 5 weeks. I stayed here before so I was comfortable with the location and we were able to get a good price. I like to have the basic amenities air con, hot water, cable tv, refridgerator and if it has a DVD so much the better I have all that plus Broadband WIFI and a gym membership at a 5 star hotel for $100 less than a basic hotel room. So I am getting 3 or 4 star amenities for 2 star prices and it is much more comfortable the only thing I don't have is maid service but getting a maid is no big deal here.
I comment on this before when I was in Pattaya Thailand and basically you can have a nice little condo or apartment for less than the price of a hotel if you are staying by the month. In Pattaya you can get it for as little as two weeks if you find someone that is desperate to rent one. The money makes sense to them if the room is full for two weeks, it is going to make their payment for that month better than if you have it empty.
