I am very excited as I have a new underwater camera a Canon G12 with underwater housing. I wanted to upgrade for a while but being a Cheap Charley I had to wait till the old Sony camera that I had finally died rest in peace.
I focused my search basically on two cameras the Nikon f7000 and the Cannon G12. I liked the spec on the new Nikon but that camera is bleeding edge and not yet field tested the Canon G12 on the other hand is a revision of a platform that has been arounfd for a while and you can consider it cutting edge.
I have a Nikon D90 but the thing is huge and on Bangkok Cheap flights to Bali that camera can cost me $40 in overweight fees with all of the attachments. The thing that burned me the most on it is that it shoots HD Videos but it is AVI so you tube only sees it as a 360 or 480 not a true Hi Def. The Cannon shoots in HD and uploads as a .mov file and I am waiting but I bet that it will be shown in HD.
I have had a couple of underwater camera housings and I really had nothing bad to say about the Sony except for the fact that they change the models and thenm the housing is useless as the camera is a dinasor as soon as you buy it it seemed to me. The Cannon Housing for the G12 is the same as the G11 so was no problem to find and it was cheap like $150 USD combined with the G12 at $440 you are $600 USd for HD Underwatervideos Yea!
