Bali And Change

Bali is a great place to visit but there is one area that you need to be a little aware of and that is the taxis the airport taxis are controled by the local taxi companies and they gouge the hell out of you becuase they can. the best cab company in Bali if you ask anyone who has been here for any time is the Blue Bird taxis so much so that the local taxi companises go out of there way to look like them complete with roof signs that look almost exact and why not for a airport ride to Sanur they will try to charge you 150,000 Rupias which is $16 USD for a 20 min ride where as the Blue Bird taxis will charge you under $9 usd. Just like in the USA the good company is blocked by the local goverment from picking you up in the airport so if you want to get a fair rate you need to walk to the exit and wait for the first blue bird taxi to leave which is easy enough as they are the only ones leaving DPS airport empty. And just so that you know the Blue birds are allways the nicest and cleanest and the drivers are allways very polite and helpfull. The other guys hey they don't nee to be becuase you have to use them if you are arriving at the Bali Airport Nagauh Rai. The prices seem to be creaping up and the taffic is a little heavier but Bali seems very much like it was a couple of years ago. One of the nice things about Bali is that the locals have so much local cultre ingrained from all of their social events that don't seem very much affected by all of the new visitors comming and I expect that they will be seeing growth for a while to come yet.
